Peter Tschentscher, mayor of Hamburg in Germany, led a delegation of over 50 members on a visit to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music on August 27. They were received by SHCM Party Secretary Xu Xu and Deputy President Hou Liyu at the school’s newly-opened opera house.
Xu extended a warm welcome to the guests.
He briefed them about the history and development of the SHCM and said that with the close ties between Shanghai and Hamburg, SHCM and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg will become important international partners and work together on a series of quality projects.
Tschentscher appreciated the reception. Over the past three decades Shanghai and Hamburg have been on friendly terms and carried out constructive exchanges on ocean and harbor economy, sci-tech research as well as music and culture. The SHMC and HfMT, who joined hands more than ten years ago, are music brands for the two cities, respectively, he added.
Elmar Lampson, head of HfMT who was also present at the meeting, revealed that with students coming from more than 50 countries, the school now takes it as an important task to learn more about Asian culture. He hoped that the cooperation with the SHCM will further continue to improve both schools’ international education level and global influence.
A performance was staged by the artists of the two schools and the guests also toured the opera house after the meeting.
