Chinese new year concert held in Vienna




The 19th Chinese New Year Concert in Vienna was held on January 22 at the celebration hall of the Municipal Government of Vienna, providing audiences with an audio-visual feast.

Jointly held by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Municipal Government of Vienna, the concert featured elements of ancient music, murals, instruments, and costumes of Dunhuang in order to promote traditional Chinese culture.

The 1,000-year Dunhuang music works, “Pinnong” and “Shuiguzi”, transcribed by SHCM professor Chen Yingshi, were staged at the concert. China’s top-level baritone Liao Changyong also gave a performance.

More than 1,000 people were in the audience, including Chinese ambassador to Vienna Wang Qun and his wife, Vienna State Parliament President Ernst Woller and his wife, Vienna City Councilor Culture and Science Veronica Kaup-Hasler couple, UNIDO Director General Li Yong couple, CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo and ambassadors from other countries and representatives from the United Nations organizations in the Austrian capital.
