SHCM launches an international cooperation project to promote cultural development of orchestra

Shanghai Conservatory of Music has recently launched an international cooperation project of “orchestra, culture and future” in collaboration with five top music institutions.

They are Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (HfMT Hamburg), Hamburger Symphoniker, San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Berklee Symphony Orchestra.

The project kicked off in September with eight participants recruited from partner music schools. They will spend a year learning to innovate on the symphony concerts, play with musicians from orchestras and try out new concepts.

They will also perform with cultural institutions from Shanghai and San Francisco.

SHCM President Lin Zaiyong spoke highly of the project and said that it was a great pleasure for SHCM to work with top music institutions in the world.

The project provides a great opportunity for musicians to gain a wide humanistic perspective and to study the future cultural development of orchestras, the president added.

SHCM teacher Pan Yan and postgraduate student Zhang Runyin are among the eight participants in the project.

The German Federal Government is funding the project for the next three years.
