The 10th New Music Week kicked off at Shanghai Conservatory of Music on September 19, attracting audiences with 11 concerts, five lectures, a summit forum and a music exhibition.
The six-day event highlighted the identity of Asian modern music while introducing the most avant-garde contemporary European music.
Three guest composers Liza Lim from Australia, Narong Prangcharoen from Thailand and Yann Robin from France shared their ideas at the event. They were also invited to be judges for new talents playing their own pieces.
The week staged three concerts of Asian works reflecting Asian culture, aesthetic traditions and folk features.
Another five concerts focusing on conversation were a combination of classics and pieces played in China for the first time.
Critics including Steve Smith, Pierre Rigaudiere and SHCM professors discussed some most heatedly-debated issues on music.
