Shanghai Conservatory of Music’s project on the establishment of Chinese music database and resources sharing platform has been chosen by the Ministry of Culture as one of the 2017 Cultural Innovation Projects.
Taking advantage of SHCM’s rich resources in music creation and education, the project, led by Professor Yang Yandi, will provide authoritative data for music composing, performing, music theories, musical education, and promotion of music research.
Meanwhile, it will also provide overseas users a window and platform to learn more about China’s music through its website, and mobile applications. When finished, the platform will collect data like what songs get the most likes and reposting, in order to map out the reconstruction of the modern classics of China’s music, as well as reorganizing China’s traditional music and ethnic music of other countries and providing reference and aide for organizing musical documents in China.
The platform will also provide guidelines and references for music composing, performing and academic research of the country’s cultural policies.
The Cultural Innovation Projects, a national program, was initiated in 2009 and has achieved good results in talents cultivating and setting an exemplary role for other projects. Each year, the ministry receives hundreds of applications and would only approve a dozen practical and exemplary projects.
As one of this year’s Cultural Innovation Projects, SHCM’s Chinese music database program will play a very important role in boosting the conservatory’s future development.
