Local students win 6 prizes in vocal competition


Six students and one teacher from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music won prizes in the China leg of the 2017 International Vocal Competition of Classical Singers in March 2017.

Wen Yaqi, a graduate student, won a first prize; Hu Chaozheng, a senior student, received a second prize; Diao Xuan, a senior student, got a third prize. Xi Yu, Shi Bowei and Song Zihao were given honorary awards. Li Weijie, a professor of the conservatory, won the best piano accompaniment prize.

The school also confirmed that its students Hu Chaozheng, Diao Xuan, Shi Bowei, Xi Yu and Song Zihao had been admitted to New York University. Hu also received a letter of admission from the Temple University in the US.

The vocal competition attracted 258 singers from all over China. The first round of the world finals will be held in May in over 40 locations in the United States.
