SHCM, Sibelius Academy of Finland forge ties

Shanghai Conservatory of Music President Lin Zaiyong met the visiting dean of Sibelius Academy of Finland, Tuomas Auvinen, on November 28, 2016.

Lin said Sibelius Academy has a long history and is famous for its chamber music, piano, composing and musicology faculties.

The two school leaders signed a cooperation agreement when Lin visited Finland in September and they discussed plans for faculty and student exchanges and cooperation.

Lin said Auvinen’s return visit indicates he attaches great importance to cooperation between the two schools.

Lin gave the Finnish guest an update on the conservatory’s construction of an opera house and hoped Auvinen can come as a consultant and give lectures on theater management and offer advice for the opera house.

Auvinen thanked Lin for his warm reception and said he gave high priority to cooperation between the two schools. Sibelius Academy will send its professors and students to Shanghai on exchange programs.

He said it is rare in the world for a music conservatory to have its own opera house. He has great confident in the conservatory’s future and their bilateral cooperation.

After the meeting, Auvinen gave a lecture to the graduate students of SHCM on art management.

Sibelius Academy of Helsinki Art University held the 7th place in the 2016 QS World University Rankings in the category for art and performance institutes.
