SHCM band treats Y20 participants to Chinese music

A 12-member Chinese music band made up of Shanghai Conservatory of Music teachers and students performed at a dinner reception for guests attending the Youth 20 meeting at Shanghai Fudan University on July 26, 2016.

They presented a Chinese melody called “Silk Road” with traditional string and wind instruments. Their performance drew big applauses from the audience.

The Youth 20 meeting, or Y20, is a youth-led event bringing together young people from the G20 countries to discuss and debate the G20 Leaders’ agenda. It was held in Beijing and Shanghai from July 24 to 30, before the G20 Summit in Hangzhou in early September.

The Shanghai event was hosted by the All-China Youth Federation and Fudan University. The SHCM played an active part in the Y20 event to promote Chinese music to foreign participants.

More than 100 youth representatives from G20 countries attended the banquet. Zhou Changkui, vice president of the All-China Youth Federation; Weng Tiehui, vice mayor of Shanghai; Zong Ming, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal Government; Xu Weiwan, president of the Shanghai Youth Federation; and Fudan University leaders also attended.
