Swiss piano competition may have a local copy


Zhang Xianping, vice president of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, met the founding chair of the International Piano Competition of Fribourg for Youth, Switzerland, and William Frei, former consul-general of Switzerland in Shanghai, on April 6.

Present at the meeting were Chen Xiaoyi, director of international exchange; Liu Ying, headmaster of the SHCM Middle School; Wen Deqing, associate dean of composition; and Zhou Ting, director of piano faculty of the SHCM Middle School.

They discussed the possibility of holding the junior piano competition in Shanghai.

The Fribourg competition, held every June since 2000, aims to promote contemporary piano music in the 21st century. The competition is supported by the Fribourg state government, the Fribourg Conservatory of Music, and the Jeune Musique Association.
