Lin Zaiyong and Richard Wistreich from London’s Royal College of Music discuss cooperation on November 18, 2016.

Shanghai Conservatory of Music President Lin Zaiyong held a talk with Richard Wistreich, director of research of the Royal College of Music from London, in November 2016 on establishing a joint institute.

They discussed details of the plan and a wide range of issues from applying for public funding to enrollment size and requirements, departments and curriculum design.

The Shanghai Conservatory of Music will recruit best teachers in the country to work at the joint institute and provide short-term exchange programs for faculties and students of both conservatories, Lin said.

Wistreich said the new school can start with courses in piano, stringed instruments, chamber music and opera music and gradually expand as the whole system is well established and stable.
