French composer holds lectures at SHCM

François Paris, director of the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music in France, visited the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in April 2012, giving lectures and classes to students majoring in composition and music engineering.

Paris is one of the first few foreign musicians to be awarded a certificate of guest professorship by the Shanghai conservatory.

The French professor studied composition and conducting at the Conservatoire of Versailles and the Conservatoire de Paris, under Ivo Malec, Betsy Jolas and Gérard Grisey. He received an award in the Concours International de Composition de Besançon and joined IRCAM in 1993. He took an advanced program at the French Academy in Rome from 1993 to 1995.
