Lin Zaiyong, president of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, met Bernd Redmann, president of Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, and his delegation on November 19.

Lin welcomed his guests and congratulated him on his successful performance on the previous day. Lin said the flute piece “Random Thoughts on Westlake Moon,” composed by Redmann for SHCM’s Professor He Qisheng’s concert and based on the Tang Dynasty’s music sheets, is a beautiful artistic exchange that transcends time and cultures.

HMTM is Germany’s top higher education institution of arts, with which SHCM has had constant communication and exchanges, and many SHCM’s students and musicians have studied there.

The construction of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Opera House will be finished next year and when put into use, SHCM and local residents will be able to appreciate original works and operas of HMTM there.

Lin proposed that the two universities could use the current visit as an opportunity to further strengthen their cooperation and musical exchanges. SHCM also hopes to extend and deepen the existing cooperation and exchanges with the Munich university.

Redmann agreed with Lin on his insights of the two universities’ development and cooperation. He said the artistic cultivation of SHCM’s students is impressive, and it’s his pleasure to carry out musical exchanges and cooperation with them.

HMTM hopes to invite professors and students of SHCM to bring their music pieces and operas to show in Germany, and he hopes to see the two universities carrying out more exchanges, communication, and cooperation among their professors and students, Redmann added.

Zhou Xianglin, director of SHCM’s Composition Department; He Shengqi, professor of SHCM’s Orchestra Department; and Chen Xiaoyi, director of SHCM’s International Communication Office, also attended the meeting.
