Shanghai Conservatory of Music Professor Yang Yandi led a delegation to visit the Sibelius Academy in Finland from October 8 to 12 for academic exchange.
The visit organized by He Luting Advanced Research Institute for Chinese Music set out as an effort to promote Chinese music’s influence around the world.
Professor Yang gave a lecture on October 9 expounding the development of Chinese piano history over the past century. Piano Professor Niklas Pokki presided over the event.
Yang also briefed his audience on the general background of Chinese piano music and explained selected composers and piano pieces. In addition, he shared his ideas on Chinese piano music development in the future after answering questions from the audience.
Yang and SHCM students toured Sibelius’ former residence in the same afternoon.
The three students of piano major also performed representative Chinese piano music at Camerata Hall of Helsinki Music Centre, which won loud applause from the listeners.
Yang also met with Markus Utrio, the academy’s vice dean, and Sibelius Association to discuss on further cooperation in the future and invited Finnish musicians to perform at this year’s China Shanghai International Arts Festival.
