Vice President Hou Liyu of Shanghai Conservatory of Music led a delegation to visit Showa University of Music in Japan from October 5 to 8.
They watched Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Falstaff” together, performed by artists from the two schools and held talks on their mutual exchange and cooperation over the years.
Hou was impressed by the show and gave high comments for Showa’s emphasis on opera teaching as well as value fostering in education.
The two parties hope to work on the opera performance and to provide more opportunities for young artists while expanding their collaboration in more fields.
Showa University of Music is known for its study, making and performing of Italian operas and holds complete Italian performing sessions at least three times a year since 1957.
In 2015 SHCM has joined Showa University of Music in performing operas like “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Don Juan” and “Cosi fan tutte” in Tokyo and Shanghai as well.
