Shanghai Conservatory of Music launched its International Chamber Music Center on September 22.
A cooperation memo on the project was signed by SHCM President Lin Zaiyong, Rector Ulrike Sych of University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) and Artistic Director Johannes Meissl of European Chamber Music Academy at the center’s unveiling ceremony.
The center aims to integrate the top cultural resources as well as teaching staff to carry out high-end exchange and collaboration in the field of chamber music. The process will benefit SHCM’s discipline development at the same time.
Lin highlighted chamber music’s special role in cultivating music talent.
“SHCM International Chamber Music Center shares the idea of common music development in the future and should serve as platform for musicians around the world to work better,” he said.
Rector Ulrike Sych echoed with the idea and believed that the founding of the center is a milestone to wield music’s charm around the globe.
The center will infuse new energy into chamber music development in the future, as it seeks to tap into the similarity and differences between Chinese and Western chamber music, Meissl commented.
