The 2018 Belt and Road Art Talent Training Program, jointly organized by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Shanghai Theatre Academy kicked off on June 19.
The program will last for three weeks, involving 20 scholarship-granted students from 12 countries, including the United States, Canada, Russia, Vietnam, India and Poland.
SHCM Deputy Party Secretary Liu Yan attended the opening ceremony and welcomed the participants of the program.
The Silk Road is a corridor of art and culture, which promotes new cooperation and connects musical cultures for countries along the road, Liu said. The program on the other hand, taps into SHCM’s and STA’s strength disciplines to provide for students a comprehensive platform of cultural exchange.
She also wished the program a great success and hopes that the young participants can learn a lot in the process.
Director Zhang Yunlei from the International Exchange Department in STA and the school’s student representatives Ankita Vikhan Kar and Polosina Anastasiia Igorevna also spoke at the ceremony.
The program provides cultural training for mainly foreign students, covering basics of Chinese folk music and theatre for students from the Belt and Road countries to get a multi-dimensional understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
