SHCM leaders propose collaboration with German foundation

Vice President Liz Mohn of Bertelsmann Stiftung, a German foundation, led a delegation to visit Shanghai Conservatory of Music on June 1. SHCM Party Secretary and President Lin Zaiyong and Deputy Party Secretary Liu Yan received the guests.

Lin welcomed the guests and briefed them on the SHCM’s cooperation with German academies of music. SHCM could join hands with the foundation on its Neue Stimmen international vocal music competition, in terms of planning, promoting and judging, he said.

Mohn appreciated the reception and introduced the Bertelsmann and the foundation. She said that musical education is an important part of talent cultivation, on which the foundation has supported more than 4,000 music teachers over the years.

The Neue Stimmen competition held by the group every two years has also transferred plenty of vocal music stars to the world stage. Mohn showed confidence in the two parties’ collaboration in the future. 

The guests also watched SHCM students’ live piano and erhu performance after the meeting.

Bertelsmann Stiftung was founded by Reinhard Mohn in 1977 and is now the largest non-governmental foundation in Germany. It aids charity work in education, heath, economic and social affairs and international relations. It is strengthening business in China at the moment.
