A Germany student discusses with Professor Yu Danhong after the lecture.

Professor Yu Danhong of Shanghai Conservatory of Music gave a lecture to postgraduate students at Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater Muenchen in Munich on May 28.

Yu based the lecture on her latest research of “Music Education in China,” which looks into the core value and key features in Chinese music education.

During the lecture Yu explained to the audience the inheritance of traditional Chinese music, the making of guqin, a seven-string Chinese zither, and the philosophical sense behind the traditional cultural symbols.

She also demonstrated Chinese guqin playing for the students.

The professor said that she was impressed by the German students’ independent thinking and creativity, as they could quickly recap what they heard and relate it to their own learning experience.

The lecture and interaction lasted for four hours. The materials used during the lecture were also kept by the German professors and students for research.

Yu invited the audiences for academic exchange with their SHCM counterparts in the future.
