Four graduate students from Shanghai Conservatory of Music attended the academic exchange event in Hong Kong on May 18 and 19, upon the invitation of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The forum, “EARS Graduate Music,” focused on the theme of Asian music and extended the discussion into different schools of theory, the history of pop music in different Asian areas and traditional instrument.
SHCM students explained their ideas in their essays.
Musicologist Alexander Rehding of Harvard University also gave an inspiring lecture, picturing what happened if the alien was able to pick up a piece of earth music in the space.
Students from Taiwan University, Seoul National University, Tokyo University of the Arts and University of Southampton also participated in the forum.
Different cultural backgrounds and academic experiences sparked meaningful thinking and opened broad ground for exploration for the participants of the forum.
