German Professor Reinhard Bahr received Chinese R visa on March 5, enabling him to become a full-time faculty at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
Previously hired by Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Professor Bahr obtained the R visa from Chinese Consulate in Hamburg, becoming one of the first group of high-level professionals benefiting from China’s new visa policy on attracting overseas talents.
R stands for rencai, or talents. The R visa will allow multiple entries into China in the next 10 years for its holder, during which each stay could last up to 180 days.
The updated foreigners’ work permit system was introduced last November and has started to pilot in Shanghai this year. Qualified expats with relevant documents could apply for the R visa that is effective from five to 10 years.
