SHCM and Juilliard jointly hold a seminar on contemporary Chinese music

The latest research outcomes by Qian Renping and his team are donated to Juilliard School.


The Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Juilliard School held an academic seminar in New York on January 22 and 23.

The seminar, entitled “Contemporary Chinese Music in Concept and Practice,” aimed at exchanging latest research results on modern Chinese music creation. 

Professor Steven Laitz, dean of Music Theory and Analysis Department at Juilliard, chaired the seminar. Professor Qian Renping, director of Chinese Modern Music Research and Development Center at the SHCM, gave a keynote speech and made the concluding remarks at the seminar.

Composers, theorists and performers from Chinese and American colleges, including the SHCM, Juilliard, Harvard, and Central Conservatory, attended the event and gave speeches. 

SHCM representatives donated book collections on SHCM history and Chinese musician works to Juilliard library during the seminar.

Young performers also played Chinese music pieces at the venue.
