Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary, and Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Poland signed a cooperation memorandum on June 4 to form a tri-academy alliance.

Lin Zaiyong, president of SHCM, visited FAC and FCUM in March and proposed to form an alliance to build an international exchange platform for students’ associate bands and concerts, and to spot and cultivate talented and potential musicians. After two months of negotiation, the alliance came into being.

The three conservatories will share faculty recourses, send professors and talented students to each other’s campuses, and strive to develop and preserve each country’s ethnic music.

FAC and FCUM will provide training to students of SHCM and offer them opportunities to stage concerts and take part in major musical competitions in the world. They will also introduce courses into SHCM.

The three conservatories will take turns to hold themed concert every year.

Lin said the alliance boasts rich recourses in classical music and piano disciplines, and will initiate high-end strategic partnership in the world. SHCM will take advantage of the alliance to share and promote the essence of China’s music culture.

FAC was established by piano giant Franz Listz in 1875, and FCUM, established in 1810, is the largest and oldest conservatory in Poland, and one of the oldest in Europe.
