SHCM President Lin Zaiyong talked with Arthur van der Drift, director of TROMP Percussion Eindhoven and secretary-general of the International Society for Contemporary Music from the Netherlands, in a meeting on March 8, 2016.
TROMP Percussion Eindhoven is a biennial competition for young percussionists held in Eindhoven, Netherlands since 1971.
Yang Yiping, the Chinese winner of the competition and now a lecturer at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Lyon, and SHCM professors Ye Guohui and Yang Ruwen joined the meeting.
Drift introduced the TROMP percussion competition and discussed the possibilities of holding the event in China. He invited Professor Yang as a judge on the panel.
Lin said contemporary music is not limited to composition. It is an indicator of overall development of music conservatories.
Yang Yiping and the 2014 TROMP winner Dominique Vleeshouwers later gave lessons to students at the SHCM.
